National Highway Traffic Safety Administration: NHTSA carries out the mandates of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. National Transportation Safety Board: The NTSB investigations transportation accidents, including selected motor vehicle crashes, and publishes reports and recommendations for government and private-sector actions to remedy problems disclosed by its investigations.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: The CDC collects, analyzes and reports on data related to a wide range of health threats, including motor vehicle crash deaths and injuries. It evaluates injury-control activities in the public and private sectors and makes recommendations their improvement.
National Center for Statistics and Analysis: Housed within NHTSA, the NCSA maintains a wide range of statistics on aspects of motor vehicle deaths and injuries. Through data analysis, it examines the role of vehicle design in injury causation. It offers links to many other vehicle-injury information sources.
Federal Highway Administration: The FHWA administers federal funding for the construction and improvement of highways, urban and rural roads, and bridges. In the area of safety, FHWA conducts research on safety practices and technologies for all phases of highway design and operations, focusing on ways to improve intersections, pedestrian and bicyclist safety, run-off-road safety, and speed management.
