E.R. PATIENTS REPORT LOWER BELT USE

A study of self-reported safety belt use by emergency room patients in Boston – a “potentially at-risk” group of motorists - has found that they have lower belt use rates than the population at large. The study, reported in BMC Public Health 2006 (6:111), noted that while safety belt use is 80% nationally, it is only 63% in Massachusetts. The authors called for an emergency room-based “intervention to increase safety belt use among this hard-to-reach population…”
